We are looking for 3 high school students (must be between 15-17 and preferably in grade 10/11) for 8-week paid placements during the summer who want to bolster their research/writing skills and add a VERY important piece to their CV for college applications.

Hours: 30 hrs/wk

Wage: $12.65 p/hr

Start date: July 1

End date: August 31

Required interests/character/skills/aptitudes:

Interested in the Society’s principles/philosophy

Logical and open minded

Hard working and detail oriented

Can work in a group or independently

Can use Google Search efficiently

Knows software like Word, Excel and Powerpoint etc.

Knows the basics of summary and essay writing

Knows how to do bibliographies (APA format)

Tasks/duties:

Brainstorm possible research topics in line with the society’s mission

Review academic articles related to assigned research projects

Fact checking articles relevant to assigned projects

Collect and analyze data relevant to assignments

Locate possible granting agencies and foundations who might be allies

Locate and recruit possible speakers/interviewees on topics of interest to the society

Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects

Maintain accurate/complete work logs for review by supervisor

Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project

Manage and promptly respond to project-related email

Maintain, and update website

Attend project meetings

Attend seminars of interest to the society that are assigned, and other meetings as directed

Summarize project results in writing when required

Prepare progress reports (oral) to deliver if/when asked

Prepare presentations if/when asked

Monitor and especially maintain project budgets
